240 stalls at random 200

Help!

My 93' 240 wagon stalls at random times. The check engine light comes on and I read the code 144, load signal bad. I was also getting the code for the air mass meter. Replaced the air mass meter but I still have the same stalling problem with code 144 only. Car won't start back up unless I wait 3 minutes or so. If I open the hood and disconnect/connect the air mass meter connector, the car starts right back up. What is the link between the air mass meter and code 144? My mechanic said I should get a new car. Any suggestions?

Thank You Very Much!
