Replace Bulb in 940 Heater Control dial? 900 1991

Is there an easy way to replace the bulb in the 91 940 GLE heater control instrument panel? Unlike the 740, the 940 heater control package is held in place by 2 metal clips on the base, so you cannot just remove 4 screws & slide it out. The dealer says that you have to remove the radio, remove the box that the radio sits in, then remove the trim panel (with those metal clips) behind the radio box, then remove the heater instrument cluster. By then you have the whole center part of the dash apart just to replace a bulb!

I peeled back the face on the instrument cluster & through the clear plastic I can see the bulb, but the face does not seem to come off when I remove the 3 screws holding it in place. I am tempted to make a slot in the clear plastic face with a dremel then remove the bulb. The slot would be covered by the peel & stick face afterwards.
Thanks
Phil
