still fuel delivery problems

1978 242 GT will start with the fuel relay unplugged, especially if I press on the accelerator (more air to manifold)and run for several seconds. If I put the relay back on when it is running in this mode,the pumps will start and it will die immediately. If I crank it with the relay (a new one) in place, it will not start until I pull the relay off again, crank it (I guess untill excess fuel is out of the cylinders and intake manifold)and then it will do the same thing all over again. I pulled the injectors and observed #1 leaking so replaced it with a used one that appears not to leak. All injectors have what I will assume is an "acceptable" spray pattern (Chilton diagram) and do not seem to leak after the pumps turn off. I had an indie Volvo mechanic check the pressures a couple of weeks ago and they were all acceptable then. When the car is running for the few seconds that it does, it runs well, so am assuming the ignition end of the equation is okay. It just seems to be that too much fuel is getting to the cylinders. The fuel distributor does not seem to be stuck as I can move the sensor plate and it moves freely up and down. I have not checked the temp sensor but will do so after I finish typing although I don't really know what to look for there except for a broken wire...It has a new prepump and obviously the main pump is delivering fuel. Any conjectures would be welcome as this Kjet is driving me crazy!!!! Thanks, Thor
