found alternative to replacing wiper control stalk 700 1987

I see in the FAQ a neat way to replace the stalk. If you don't mind a non-stock appearance, but still neat, you can do a fix with a short piece of ordinary 5/8 OD copper tube/pipe used in house plumbing. Previous owner snapped this stalk half way along the mid-section and kept the loose piece. I found that the tube (one and three-quarter inch length worked in my case) could be squeezed and lightly hammered into a sleeve with a cross-section that exactly accepted the trapezoidal section of the loose bit, as a tight press fit. However, the stub part that mated was tapered the "wrong" way, and gave a looser fit. Made 4 slits on the end of the tube, forming 4 tabs, rounded them off, put a generous dollop of J-B Weld (great stuff) in the hole, pressed it on, bent the tabs around the crook in the stub. Next day a nice solid assembly. Sprayed it black. As they say down at the pick 'n pull, If JB won't do it, it's time to open the Jim Beam.
