Wiper delay. 700 1990

Have any of the resident electronics gurus come up with a way to provide variable delay for the wipers on the 700 series?

I pulled a spare relay apart hoping to find a trim pot for setting the delay length which could replaced with an external pot to give variable delay.

Unfortunately as can be seen from the picture below there is no adjustment.

Any ideas for adding this very usefull feature (preferably cheaply ! ) would be greatly appreciated.
