244 electrical problem...fuse melted? 200 1984

The @#$% 25-amp fuse holder is a problem for many of us 240 owners. It sits out there gathering heat and grit and rainwater and other unfriendly things, and the contacts begin to corrode.

That increases the resistance at the contacts which makes heat which starts to melt the holder. And the holder becomes dry and brittle after only 15 or 20 years. Outrageous! Then the electrical connection gets iffy, and you get "it died".

Being stuck with that mess some time ago, I ripped up the fuse holder entirely and found this: The red wires going in at the bottom have connectors on them that go onto another connector that is made for the fuse to fit into.

However, the terminals on the red wires can accept one of the fuse lugs. So I sort of wove the two red wires through the battery cables and stuck the fuse into the terminals, and let the whole thing hang out in mad-air.

Worked for a year, until I got around to installing a $3.00 in-line fuseholder rated at 30 amps from my corner Radio Shack store.
