Problem solved 200 1986

My '86 245, 285k miles, had these symptoms:

- Increasingly hard starting.
- Smell of gas, getting worse.
- Declining mpg (from ~26 down to 20-22).

These symptoms started last summer and have have become more severe over the last 6-8 months.

Found that the hose clamp at the inlet to the fuel filter (from the tank) had rotted away. The hose was working loose and gas was seeping out. Evidently, the fuel filter could dribble empty overnight (or even while parked for 30 minutes) requiring extensive cranking to restore fuel pressure.

A new clamp solved it in 2 minutes.
