Hard to start 1985 GL 200

When i start our 85 240 GL in the mornings its hard to start. Usually i have to give it gas and hold the throttle at about 2000 rpm for a few minutes so it doesnt shut off when it starts to idle around 1000 rpm....
Just to let you know... We got the head gasket replaced about a month ago because she overheated... Since then its been doing this. It only does it the first time you crank it - after that it'll crank all day long on the first try.
Is there something that could be unhooked or something that could have been messed up when it overheated? Any help is appreciated!
ghop
