1991 740 stalls

Hello again everyone. I have a 1991 740 turbo that stalls shortly after i start it. After starting, it generally runs anywhere from 20 seconds to a few minutes before stalling. If i'm lucky enough to actually be mobile when the stalling occurs, the tach immediately goes to zero even though i'm still rolling along. Sometimes all it takes to restart is to just turn the key off then restart...other times i have to wait a while before it will start again. Any ideas besides a stick of c-4 and a blasting cap?
