M46 from a 240/D24 into a 740/B230FT?

Title kind of lays it out.

I have an '88 740T with an M46/B230FT. 2nd gear synchros are shot.

I have an M46 from an '84 245 diesel.

Issues and questions:

I understand I will have to use the bellhousing from the 740. Is this a straight swap onto the M46 case from the D24 car?

I know I will need to re-use the shift linkage from the 740.

KEY ISSUE: is the input shaft the same on an M46 for both gas and diesel?

Will I have to swap the output yoke?

How can I cap off the speedometer drive on the older trans, as the 740 has an electronic speedo?

TIA

Evan
