How to Relieve Fuel Pressure 200 1986

By now you've probably replaced the filter already. After doing this to the first volvo I owned, I decided to no longer replace fuel filters as preventive maintenance. They are so large, and I keep the fuel tanks pretty full on average, I figure they will give ample notice of being clogged.

The cars like yours with LH injection don't store a lot of volume under pressure, so the rags are fine for me. I suppose for ideal conditions, you'd get the tank as empty as possible, and reach under the rear seat and disconnect the pump wire while running.



After taking this photo, my 84 continued to idle on nothing but the transfer pump, so you could pull that fuse first. With an empty tank there should not be much siphon action to make clamping the tank-to-main pump hose needed.

Others with later LH cars (89-) might take advantage of the diagnostic test that cycles the cold start valve (if present) and the injectors to dissipate residual pressure. But without an accumulator, LH cars don't really hold that much volume that a couple shop rags can't contend with. And you can really save a lot of aggravation if you have available an impact wrench for the banjo bolts.
