A thank you, and update, and question: Why do I smell gas? 200 1984

Hi! I want to thank everyone here for all the wonderful advice and tips. My husband finally installed the new blower motor, so we have heat now, just in time for spring, lol! It wasn't a fun project, but it actually didn't take him all day, which was good. We also finally found some seat belts, and my dh fixed the ones that were stuck in the retracted position.

Now, for the new issue. I have been smelling gas lately while driving; not constantly, it comes and goes. We checked for leaks and didn't find anything.......checked the fuel line hose....nothing. But I keep catching really bad whiffs of gasoline, and I'm concerned. One time, we noticied it really bad was when we had a full tank, and my dh gunned the engine, the smell was overpowering. We stopped the car, and it reeked by the gas tank; opened it up and gas had splashed up into the little rubber resivoir thing (sorry, don't know what it's called). It also smells inside the car, in the rear, by the gas tank. What the heck is wrong? Or do I just have a super sensitive nose? I keep smelling it, at random times while driving. Please advise.

Thanks,
Kristi
