Two simple Non-Volvo questions (hopefully)

I had a problem with the heater on my 740. It would work semi-ok when driving but would be quite poor when idling. This was due to an obstruction in the heater core. I clamped the two hoses going to the heater core at the fire wall and reverse flushed the core with a garden hose. The resevse dircetion is important as it pushes the obstruction back out of the heater core. That solved my problem.

You can check the hoses at the firewall. If one is very hot and the other is much cooler then you have an obstruction. If both hoses are relatively cool your problem is not the heater core.
