Alternator? 200 1988

While driving on the highway I noticed that the temp and fuel gauge appeared to be dropping and reading abnormally low. Also, the radio's reception was bad where it usually isn't. The tach was jumping a bit and idling high (2000). The dashboard battery light, brake light, and brake failure light were on but faint. The battery light also appeared to be flickering. Car eventually died out. Put in a charged battery and it started right up with same light conditions but tach not jumping. Any suggestions for troubleshooting?
