Also forgot to answer Richards's question re what I am doing with suspension and brakes.

AS I am getting a front cut for the silvia I will obviously have a look at it's front suspension and brakes and see if there is any way to adapt them, however the Volvo gives an exceptional base to work from in the brake department, the list of cars with 4 wheel discs, 4-piston front and 2-piston rear, would be very very short in the late 60's (still is today), will start with more aggresive street pads and work from there.

The stock suspension isn't anything special but it is very robust so will probably avoid trying to use the silvia stuff (as it is macpherson strut anyway, which would be very different, that being said a wide variety of adjustable suspension stuff is available for the silvia.....). But basically my current plan is to leave the suspension and steering as is, do the engine swap, see where the new engine leaves the front of the car sitting compared to original then buy appropriate lowering springs and fit a thicker sway bar.

Will be heading off to a jap wreckers during the week to take measurements of the engine/gearbox and everything else to start working out things more precisely rather than just theorising without any actual measurements. But from visual inspection the motor looks quite fittable within the current engine bay with the original steering and brake setup intact.
