Driveablility and the In-Tank Fuel Pump 700

1985 740 non-turbo with 260xxx miles. Car runs great for its age. The other day however, the main (#1) fuel pump fuse blew. It had a 15 amp fuse and replaced it with a 25 amp. Fuse held but now the car will buck and miss and intermittently run awful when it warms up. I have tried another AMM, and power stage amplifier. The Fuel Pressure Regulator seems ok (fuel runs out the return hose and no fuel in the vacuum line to intake. The symptoms are still there after all this. I have determined that the in tank fuel pump is not working. Could this result in the problems I am experiencing? How critical is this pump to driveability? I have a donor car I can pull a pump out of -I'm not sure where to go from here-any suggestions-Thanks, Dave F.
