Quality of interior materials 200

Did Volvo make any effort to improve the quality of the 240's interior materials over the course of the model's life? Even I see a lot of '91s and '92s with a few cracks cracks on the tops of their dashes. Having been in many 240s over the years, the interior plastics don't seem to be as durable as the later models, such as the 960 or S70.
