ignition fried? 700

Still can't get spark on my '88 760 turbo. When cranking the car the tach needle only jumps up once and then stays still. It appears(if I am actually using the correct wires) that the ECU isn't getting a signal from the hall sensor. They haynes/chiltons manuals say different things so I am not sure if I am using the right wires. When bypassing the hall sensor wires with a new shielded wire to the ECU the car still had no spark. The coil has power but there is still no spark at it. What else should I check? The ICU? where is the ICU.. where it is shown in haynes/chiltons there is nothing.
