Starting/Idle/Stall out Problems 200 1987

Hello everyone,

Lately I've been having some running problems with my 87 240 DL. Here they are:

Just after start-up in cold weather (like when I'm warming it up), it will clunk out and stall. If I crank it again it starts right back up, but this is obviously not a good thing.

Also, usually just after I start it, it sometimes stalls when I take it out of park and put it into reverse or drive. Again, it starts right back up.

The oddest problem is the hesitation on acceleration it has. I'll hit the gas, and nothing will happen for about 3 seconds, then it will pick up and accelerate. Also, I sometimes notice a little dead spot or gap in acceleration to driving speed.

All this on top of very poor gas mileage (15 mpg approx.) and occasional problems starting and it's obvious that there's a very big problem somewhere.

New air filter, new fuel pressure regulator, preheater hose in place, spark good, fuel injector cleaner additive used several times, new O2 sensor, new coolant temp sensor, vacuum feeding the interior heater valves plugged up to stop possible leak, fuel pump relay good, all fuses good.

What should I check next?

Thanks, Jeremy.
