various ailments 200 1987

I'm new to Volvos -- purchased an 87 245DL w/215K on the odometer. Wondering about some things I'm hearing/feeling.

1. There seems to be an awful lot of valve clatter. I have heard this is common in these engines (B230F). Is there anything I can do to quiet the valves?

2. When the engine is cold there is a small squeaking noise coming from the front of the car. The belts are new and tight, and the squeaking stops once the engine warms up.

3. M47 transmission (four speed plus overdrive, no switch) is fine until fourth gear. If I'm accelerating hard (onto the highway, for instance), the transmission slips. Doesn't do this in any other gear. Is this sign of a worn clutch or something worse?

Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.
