just want to make shure leather shift boot is okay in a m47 5speed 200

I got the leather shift boot that I have wanted for $5.00, which made me happy considering the new price for it that I would never pay anything close too. I have installed it in my Volvo which has the m47 5speed and I was just want to make shure it is okay to use with that transmission. I put the car into 5th gear and it seemed to rais the lower left hand cornes of the boot. It didn't tear anything , but I just want to make sure. Also, is the part that snaps over the top of the boot supposed to fit fairly tight, or was the m47 shifter stick thicker then the m47?
