Service Light on 88' 240 200 1988

I have a question about the service light on my 240. I have just passed 150k miles, and the service light started turning on soon after. It only stays on for about 90 seconds to maybe 2 minutes after the car is started. What is the trick to resetting this light? Also, what triggers it? I assume there is a check engine light that is separate to indicate a real problem, correct?

Thanks in advance!

Andy
