Constant air temperature device 140-160

Still trying to track down running problem.

The Constant Air Temperature Device was in the trunk of my 1973 144 when I bought it a year ago. I tested it, and the thermostat doesn't open it very well, so it was always giving hot air, which I suppose is why the previous owner removed it. Now there is just a simple hose running into the air filter, attached to nothing. Will this affect the running of the engine, given that it will always be getting cold air?
