how do you get the frost color out of your headlight cover 200 1988

I've had pretty good luck starting with oven cleaner...a couple of applications on each side then following up with 3m polishing compound...the stuff for paint similar to rubbing compound... then a good coat of wax afterwards to keep them looking good. This seems to help alot but in reality they are most likely never going to look "new" again.

P.S. just on the outside...I have never done any of this to the inside...too many little grooves.
