Clutch noise? 200

I have just aquired a 240GL wagon with 260k miles that appears to have been kept in suspended animation for quite some time. (= It is in exceptionally good shape with some usually rust spots and broken map pockets. Anyway, I noticed when I am sitting at idle and release the clutch pedal, I can hear an ever so slight whirring noise down in the tranny/clutch area that makes me think it is the clutch throw out bearing turning. I aslo noticed the clutch pedal itself seems to get stiff rather quickly as I press it in. Could my clutch cable be too tight and slightly engaging the bearing while the pedal is out? Thanks ahead of time for any help!!
