Lighting system wires and plug are burnt and melted together under dash. '83 wagon. Help. 200 1983

Hi fellas. Still rebuilding the '83 wagon I acquired free. Latest problem is the parking lights on the driver's side do not light up. No voltage to either the front or rear left parking lights. The other lights work fine on that left side. I traced the wires to the round fault sensor where many wires lead out to merge into a larger harness under the dash. I noticed several burnt wires and the fault sensor seemed burnt also where the wires that had been giving me problems emerge. A few of these wires had melted together and lead up into the bigger harness. I also noticed that the plug for the light switch had deformed from heat. What likely caused this and what is the solution? I have an extra parts wagon (84) where these parts seem to be in good condition. I also recently replaced the engine harness sucessfully. I need input.
