catalytic converter 1992 960 900

Hi all, Thanks everyone for your posts on Nivomats.
had them replaced and loving it. ( I have never seen a shock that large come off of a car )

New question - on inspection of the underbody the dealer discovered a crack in one of the exhaust manifold pipes leading to the catalytic converter. They recommend replacement. I was told that the CAT comes with the manifold pipes attached as a single unit. Cost to replace 1200.00 Canadian

1, Is it possible to weld the crack?
2, Is it possible to just replace that pipe
3, some sites show cat only and some show cat and pipes attached???

I am interested in hearing about everyones experiences to make a proper decisions
