emergency brake cable issues (continued) 700 1988

Hey, y'all, thanks for the help on my recent post about the emergency brake cable replacement on my '88 740 sedan. I've been working on it this evening and found the connections at the rear axle and inside each rear rotor to be not that bad with some patience and some direction. Now, though, I can't figure out what to do with the other end, the front end. Do I have to rip apart the center console to access the emergency brake lever so I can disconnect the old cable and connect the new one? This looks like a major pain in the ass. There has to be an easier way ... right?
