The instructions that come with a rebuild kit gives the exact hight that the float arm needs to be bent to, but my instructions are for the Stromberg. I did not read the instructions when I rebuilt my carb, typical male! You'll have to find a rebuild kit (or friendly rebuilder) to check what it should be, or search the internet. It is specific to the series carburettor, not to Volvo.
Remove main fuel line and block off. Remove the linkages between the carbs, remove the screws that fixes the carb to the manifold, remove fuel line as you remove the carb. Fuel will spill. Turn upside down (similar to Stromberg as far as I know), remove screws on float bowl, and do this outside as you will spill lots of fuel. Yes, carefull with the gasket, but it is still new and should be OK. You'll see the float. On the Stromberg it hinges on a pin that clips out, and then you see the flow valve. I'd say the valve should be fine, unless the rebuilder did not clean the metal filter under the valve (Strombergs have one) or upon reinstallation a lot of dirt entered the fuel system. Or your fuel line is flaking on the inside, if it is the original. With age, the float can start leaking and take on fuel. Shake it and listen for fuel inside, or dunk it under fuel (I prefer water for obvious reasons) and look for air bubbles. There should be none. A rebuild kit contains the flow (needle) valve, but not the float. I'd strongly suspect either the float is leaking or it is set to the wrong hight. The hight is measured with the carburettor upside down, from the edge of the bowl to the arm of the float (upside down, the flow valve is fully closed). Can you still take the carburettor back to the rebuilder for a fix, or was it rebuilt too long ago?
