Thanks for the reply. As I read the previous post and the FAQ (where Foster replies to a similar problem) I get the impression it is not necessarily in the the cluster and could be the result of a bad wire at the sending unit.

My symptoms are exactly those as described in the FAQ; speedo fails (as well as odo) as if someone pulled a plug.
