Ball Joints or Creak diagnosis 200 1990

My 1990 240 has been making creaking sounds when steering at low speeds. When I bounce the front end up and down standing still, I can hear the same creaking sound coming from the passenger side. I jacked the car up on stands and was able to replicate the sound by steering the passenger side tire by hand (column unlocked). It feels like the noise is coming from the lower ball joint, I can feel it vibrating with the noise. Most of what I've read about the ball joints is with loose and unstable steering.. Is this noise also common for a worn ball joint?

thanks!

Mark
