Voltmeter wiring 200 1983

How exactly does the voltmeter work? I wired it up today, but haven't even had a chance to turn the key..... I just wanna make sure that i wired it right. Does it basically just get positive power from the fuse box? and a ground? And then the light on top of that?
I"m gonna go check it out in a bit, but thought i'd mention it here.
