Rear end question 900 1993

I heard a new, rumbling noise the other day so I jacked the car up and rotated the wheels, front and back one at a time.
Well, the sound was not heard but I noticed something when rotating the rear wheels. If I remember correctly, earlier when one wheel was spun, the other rotated in the other direction. Now it was possible to rotate one and the other was still.
Should this be possible to do on a non LSD or locking diff?

Cheers,
Mikael Larsson
