Neutral Safety Switch (PNP) changeout 900 1995

I need to replace the neutral safety switch in my 1995 960. My mechanic has adjusted it a couple of times and although I haven't been there when he made the adjustments I got the impression he did it from the top by removing the console. Can the switch be replaced from the top, by taking out the console?
I have seen the step-by-step instructions in the FAQs here on BrickBoard that tell how to do it from underneath the car but I don't have the equipment nesessary to safely do this procedure from the bottom. Can it be done from the top?
