Definately take the glovebox out. That is easy to do, and you can then see what you are doing -- almost. I remember the biggest pain about the whole job, is sliding the little lock washer thing off the top of the shaft where it connects to the wiper mechanism under the dash. You have to kinda pry up on it and then slide it out of a grove in the opposite direction; you'll see what I am talking about when you get to it. Also, be sure the motor you use is for the year model of your car. Some of the earlier models had shafts that were smaller than the newer models. All that means is that if you insert the smaller shaft through the exiting grommet, you will have space around it, and the car will then leak. So, if you get a motor at a Pick n Pull like I did, just take your motor with you to be sure you get the right size replacement, or just get the grommet from the older car and replace the one in your car; that's what I did and it works fine (actually, an '86 may have had the smaller shaft variety; I don't know).
