91 240 Auto shifter 'lock' - how to keep unlocked? 200 1991

You're right that I haven't seen this problem first hand. I'd be lying if I said I knew as much about 240s made after 1980 as I do about my fleet (a '76, a '77, and a '80). I know even less about automatic transmissions (all of my cars, except the '77 have M-46 trannys).

My suggestion is not one for a long term solution. Only for how to get by.

I always park my cars in gear, but AFTER I've applied the parking brake. After I turn the car off, I clutch in, and put the car in reverse. That way, if the brake cables were to break, the tranny should catch it.

Either way, under normal circumstances, parking in Neutral with the Parking brake set should be safe enough, but it's not ideal by any means.

DET should get this problem fixed sooner rather then later, you are right.
