240 Front Wiper Motor Replacement-- Another question!

The wiper motor is easy to spot.

If you open the hood, right below the windshield on the passenger side is this odd cylinder looking device, which is attached something which looks remotely like a disk.

Here's a link captured through google's wonderful searching abilities, featuring a wiper motor relatively like what you'll find in the 240 (without the wires and far more simplified)
