Distributor Problem -Anyone seen any problems with VOLVO wires? 700 1991

Well driving in heavy monsoon rains today ... car died on me...
I managed to restart and if i kept the idle above 1000 rpm It would run...
WHen I got home I started poking around as everything looked dry inside the engine
compartment...when I pushed on the ign wire cap from the ignition coil
where it mates to the dirstributor cap the car bucked...this was a NEW wire
from VOLVO, I pulled it and took out the original from 1991 which I saved for emergencies and I see a difference...
The boot on the original that mates to the distro has an inner seal! whereas
the new one doesnt and you can see where the wire comes in thru the boot and is crimped to the brass connector contact...
I also see what looks like gray ash like arc spots on the brass centre connector
where at the base where the cable is crimped...
Can this be the source of my problems??? The original wire with the inner seal
is a Volvo bougicord 403 Class C
the new one is a VOLVO Bougicord 403 Class C-1
... I looked at the wire that I had replaced 4 years ago and there is no inner seal on it either and it stood up for 4 years...can't figger this out...
I'm gonna pull the "new" distro cap next maybe the darned thing has a crack in it!!
