244 DL / Clunk From The Left Front 200 1979

OK,First of all I'm new here, so please be gentle... Anyway, my 244DL has this "CLUNK" sound coming from the Left front.It also seems to turn too far,as if there is no stops in the steering, when turning a tight one. I got some parts from FCPGroton ( pretty much every thing except the rack and strut inserts ) Hell, the car has over 200,000 and I am the 2nd owner, so it's time...Right Guys? As I was on my knees and bonding with my Volvo I had noticed some healthy forward to back play in the front wheels. The right side more so than the left. All the movement of play is in the Tierod as it enters the Rack Boot. So before I Boot the Rack can anyone give me some back ground as to the nature of this Beast w/power steering.
