120k mile service/ Check engine light and stalling 700 1989

My father-in-law's Volvo has 120k miles on it and is due for it's maint. service. What should be done? Should he have his timing belt changed too?

Last week, after driving when he stopped his car on his driveway, the car stalled and he couldn't restart it until he let it sit for a couple of hours. He told me the check engine light came on when it restarted. Last night we restarted the car and drove it. No problem, no check engine light. No codes set off. Any suggestions?
