Auto trans fluid 900 1991

Car: 91 940GL - B230F and AW71L

I had the trans fluid flushed 2 months ago by a "specialist" auto transmission shop. At this time the filter and pan gasket were also replaced. Today I checked the fluid and it was a very dark brown - almost like dark tea. The car has covered only 4000 kms since that flush. I flushed it through again myself this morning, using about 11 litres of new fluid, and now it is nice and red.
My question is: should the fluid have changed colour/darkened so quickly? Is it possible that crud inside the trans was dislodged by the new fluid and is/was floating around the trans?

Any input will be appreciated as always.

Brad
