Offering classic BMW motorcycle for Volvo 1800 work 1800

Hi,

I'm posting this message to see if anyone out there shares my two interests, 1800s and old BMW motorcycles. I have been riding and restoring BMW motorcycles for several years now. Recently, I fulfilled my other boyhood dream by acquiring a 1964 1800.

I bought the car in California and immediately drove it home to North Carolina. Except for some electrical gremlins and a pit stop in Albuquerque for a new generator, the car performed very well. I probably don't need to tell you how fun it was to drive around town when I got it home. Then I took one of my bikes on a 15,000 mile tour of the US to celebrate turning 30. It didn't rain at all on my trip, but it poured at home in NC. Of course the gas tank took on plenty of water and fouled the system and the carbs. Then I ignored it for a year while I focused on school. Needless to say you can't just hop in and turn the key after that. I've cleaned out the fuel system and will rebuild the carbs next week. However, there is also clutch trouble to attend to. I don't think it's completely frozen, but it won't go into gear until unless you start it in gear with the clutch depressed. Anyway, I plan to have it driving around town again in a few weeks.

The car has the typical rust issues (jackstands and elsewhere underneath, fenders, etc) and is in need of paint and interior work as well. I think the B18 is quite solid, and I have a low mileage (for a Volvo) B20 sitting around (approx 80k mi on it), a replacement gas tank for the rusty one that is in it now, and a few other odds and ends. I'm not looking to restore this car, especially since I like different options from different years. I just would like a clean, sharp looking, reliable, and temporarily rust free 1800.

I've painted one car with okay results, I can do some wrenching, but I certainly cannot weld. What I can do is restore a BMW motorcycle down to the last bolt and in any color and with any accessories anyone might want. I have several here in my shop just waiting for someone to tell me what they want. What I would like in exchange is to deliver this car to someone who will address its needs as if it were their own. When all is said and done, I'll have a great daily driver and someone will have a basically new classic airhead boxer twin.

If you are interested in this offer or know of someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks!

David
