I think you are on the right track, but the separator is not very accessible with the intake manifold in place—especially with the rubber Kjet boot in the way. Maybe a search in the archives will find some helpful information.

Removing the manifold is not as bad as it might look. However, I haven't looked at an '82 Kjet in a long time, so don't trust my opinion.

And may I suggest that you include your car year when you post (as I have added here), by using the ALL drop-down menu? I think you will then be more likely to get responses from those with similar car experience.
