HELP!!! FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR MISHAPS!!!! 700

Greetings,

1988 740 GLE 186,000 miles non-turbo 8 valve premium fules/lubricants and parts. I checked my fuel line, only to find not so much as a trickle of gas. I checked the fuel pump relay (clicking ok), i smell fuel near the driver's side exterior, but no start. I even tried replacing the distributor, and i also checked for spark all is ok. It may now either be the regulator and or any one of the fuel pumps, but yet i would smell gas up towards the fuel filter area. I have a new filter too, possibly clogged? The car does try to start but stumbles. What say you, please all responses would be welcomed!
