wiper motor installation question 200 1983

I just bought a replacement wiper motor for this '83 240; Ronak from FCPGroton. I noticed when I troubleshooted the old one that there was black sealer where the shaft goes into the firewall. Is it necessary to put fresh sealer in there when I put in the new one to forestall leaks into the passenger compartment? And how about using silicone cement, rather than that rubbery stuff, if I need to use a sealer? Thanks.
