Stereo Installation 900 1994

I have a '94 940 sedan. Just last week, some junkie kicked in a window and jacked my new stereo. He/she/it only took the head unit, not surprisingly, leaving the wiring hanging out. It looks like it would only be a matter of plugging everything into a new box and bolting it to the dash, so I don't want to pay for installation again. For the record, I've looked at the FAQ but didn't see anything dedicated to mobile sound. Here are my questions-

1. If I buy a new head unit, the appropriate installation kit and a wire harness, I should be able to do this myself, right? I'm not a gearhead, but I figure if I can wire the stereo in my living room I can do this. Am I kidding myself?

2. Where can I get some detailed instructions for this, i.e. in book-form or on-line?

2. Would I need any special tools for this?

3. Can anybody suggest some chain-store or on-line vendors for whatever I would need?

Any and all information would be very obliging.
