car turns over, won't keep running... WTF? 200

Yay. I love my brick. I really do. I must, otherwise I would have turned it into a planter box by now.

Anyways, thanks for the help with the torque setting for the valve cover. After reading all the posts on flame traps, you guys inspired me to change my flame trap and valve cover gasket. The gasket was ok, I was loosing a little from the half-moon seal at the back, and the flame trap looked like the creature from the tar lagoon.

Anyways, I but the bloody thing back together, and it won't start. I check it all again, and it still won't start. Then I notice the distributor cap has jumped off. Don't know why. put it on, try again, same thing. My partner in crime (aka dad) seems convinced I've managed to rotate the distributor cap 180. I tell him he's dumb, but plug all the wires in differently and try again. And the car backfires, bigtime. so, we sit down, and figure out the wires again, and try again. The good news is that now it will fire and catch, but it won't hold.

I'm at a loss... could it be that I somehow managed to break the line pressure regulator? All I wanted to do was shange the flame trap and valve cover gasket! Now, I'm gonna lose a day and a half to a 1 hour job.

Thanks guys
-Forest
