Transmission Removal, How High Should the Car Be? 900

Tom,

When we replaced my son's 83 244Ti AW71 with a fresh box last spring ... we had his Brick up 19" from the floor to the underside seam of the rocker panels.
We used a Harbor Freight transmission jack but only to pull it free and position the new AW back in. Once we had the old box loose, and pulled back from the engine ... we wrestled it off the jack onto a large piece of cardboard and slipped it out from under the Brick. Then we placed the refurbished AW on the cardboard slid it under the tranny tunnel and then lifted it back on the jack. We used an impact wrench to run the jack up and down and it worked pretty well. If we'd left it on the jack, I'd had to bring the Brick up several more inches and I'd reached the max my jack and stands could handle. Hope this is of some help.
