Transmission crossmember questions 200

You are also going to need shift linkage from an M46 equipped 240, along with the driveshaft, and transmission output flange.

You will also need the 240 flywheel, clutch assembly, throwout arm, and clutch cable. The pivot point for the throwout arm will need to be moved, and you should change the ball stud to the correct 240 version. Use an OEM clutch cable. I have found the aftermarket ones give high pedal effort. A Sachs clutch kit will be fine on a freshly surfaced 240 flywheel. The flywheel you get will need to have the correct hole count for the fuel system on the car you have, and it will need to be indexed correctly. Don't forget to install a pilot bearing.

Don't forget the OD relay and wiring.

Your AW71L equipped car probably has a rear differential ratio of 3.91:1 or 3.73:1. M46 equipped NA cars had a rear differential ratio of 3.31:1.

The M46 from a 1989 740 turbo will have a P type overdrive, instead of the J type. It should outlast the rest of the car. M46s from from the late 70s had a different input spline, but the one on your 1989 740T M46 matches those for all 240s from 1979 on.

The 700 series uses a different transmission mount bracket which bolts to the transmission. Once again, you will need the proper 240 part.
