turbocharger question 200

hi there. 85 244ti 180,000 miles. i was wondering is there an acceptable amount of play in the turbocharger impeller shaft? and if so how does one know when to replace/rebuild , also what oil are you turbo owners running? i have heard of leaks when going to synthetic on older cars but when i replace the tranny soon i will do the rear main seal, and might as well do the front seals. this should cover the possible seal leaks! is there any other leaks this might lead to? new to turbos so bear with me. thanks alot
